PEN: Journey to the Center of Kenai Autocross
May 17 @ 7:00 AM – May 18 @ 4:00 PM AKDT
The Arctic Alaska Region of the Sports Car Club of America will sanction the Journey to the Center of Kenai autocross over the May 17- 18 weekend. These are the third and fourth points events in their State Championship.
Both days will be a timed driving competition through a course defined with pylons (traffic cones). Each entrant gets as many runs daily as we can fit into the schedule for their best scored time! Join your fellow Alaskan driving enthusiasts for a year of fun with cars!
Saturday and/or Sunday’s Autocross Schedule:
7:00 AM – Setup Starts
7:00-8:00 AM – Onsite check-in
8:00 AM — Tech Inspection Opens
8:30 AM – Course Open for Walk
9:00 AM – Driver’s meeting – MANDATORY
9:30 AM – Expected First Car On Course
All competitors will need to come by the Registration Table upon arrival on both Saturday and Sunday.
You will then prepare your car for tech inspection (self-tech with guidance).
Please arrive early to allow time to settle your gear, prepare your car, and complete the Tech Inspection. Remember to remove all loose items from your car and solidly secure your battery—no bungee cords!
The Driver’s Meeting will include a brief talk by the Safety Steward, and the Solo Team will cover the responsibilities each of you will have while working corners during your “work group”! This event is a go—rain or shine—and as you’ll be working opposite your “run group,” please bring hats, layers for body warmth, sunblock, and footwear for the elements.
The Region will provide water. We recommend you bring snacks and lunch, as there are no close dining options or time to leave the course during the event.
Don’t forget your valid Driver’s License!
The entry fee for each day is $60, with a $10 savings for those who register for both days at $110 for SCCA Members. A Weekend Membership for those new to the sport is available for $20. This Weekend Membership may be used as a $20 discount towards a full SCCA membership, and it is valid for all SCCA-sanctioned events held during that weekend.
Minor Waivers: If under 18-years-of-age, competitors will need a Minor Waiver signed by their parents (or legal guardians) and presented prior to competition. The SCCA Minor Waiver Form can be downloaded at www.scca.com/downloads and must be printed in color. There will also be forms at the event, but remember that both parents must be present to sign the waiver.
The registration site provides more information about the sport, helmet requirements, and tech needs.
We strive to keep our event listings current, yet both event organizers and our team may not get word of event changes posted timely. Please check with the organizers before making your travel plans.
